I am thrilled to share that I received the CoreCHI™ certification from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) on July 7, 2017. This esteemed certification reflects my commitment to high standards of healthcare interpreting. The CoreCHI™ certification, a knowledge-tier credential, is valid for four years, given the holder maintains and renews the certification timely. I renewed my certification on July 7, 2021, and it is now valid until July 6, 2025.
The CCHI offers two certification tiers, with three credentials:
The knowledge tier, which includes the CoreCHI™ certification that I hold. It is available for interpreters of all languages, excluding Arabic, Mandarin, and Spanish. To achieve this, candidates must meet CCHI’s Language Proficiency criteria and pass the CoreCHI™ exam in English. The performance tier, which encompasses: The CoreCHI-Performance™ certification for interpreters of all languages, requiring candidates to pass both the knowledge CoreCHI™ exam and the monolingual interpreting performance ETOE™ (English-to-English) exam. The CHI™ (Certified Healthcare Interpreter™) certification available in Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin. This requires candidates to pass both the knowledge CoreCHI™ exam and a bilingual interpreting performance CHI™ exam.
